Synopsis
A comic twist on a classic tail!
When young Victor's pet dog Sparky (who stars in Victor's home-made monster movies) is hit by a car, Victor decides to bring him back to life the only way he knows how. But when the bolt-necked "monster" wreaks havoc and terror in the hearts of Victor's neighbors, he has to convince them (and his parents) that despite his appearance, Sparky's still the good loyal friend he's always been.

Whimsical neo-gothic expressionism mixed with a winking, yet droll humour that also happens to lovingly honour the grandaddy monster picture of them all.
This Tim Burton is dead and gone.

This was a nice and sweet short film by Tim Burton.
It was maybe a bit scary for a Disney short film, but it is still an interesting retelling of the story of Frankenstein with some good and relatable themes.
The short film had all the creativity that Tim Burton has become known for, while also being well made. I was impressed with the cool design of the dog, and the scenes from Sparky’s point of view was nice too.
The acting was pretty average but it fit the fun tone of the short film well.
The story felt a bit rushed at some parts and especially the ending but I hope the story and it’s characters are fleshed out more in the animated movie. -

Children's content used to be way more rad. I mean we’ve stopped traumatizing children but at what cost

A joy! Tim Burton's suburban farce crossed with his gothic rolling hill pet cemetery (off balanced tombs; the fake hills, in the words of David Lynch's John Ford, make it "look interesting" to the audience eye).
A revealing short that shows the growth into Burton's magnificent era. Wholesome, earnest, and a touch of the macabre.

Tim Burton's early short for Disney is a heart-tugging love letter to pets, old black and white movies, and the Univeral monsters. From the opening moments you know you are in Tim Burton's world.
This was, unbelievably, shelved by Disney at the time and Burton fired. It wasn't until he had success elsewhere did it resurface. All true geniuses are initially misunderstood.
The cast is made of great actors we don't see anymore, like Shelley Duvall, Barret Oliver or Daniel Stern. It's a dark, quirky but lovable short film that was the birth of Tim Burton's career in movies, well worth checking out.

I think anyone who has ever loved and been loved by a dog can understand the sentiment of wanting to keep them around forever..
